The masses have been deluded in that last few thousand years to live in the present moment and turn problems over to a higher authority.  This is not the way of yoga and it is not the way we shift to the Age of Aquarius.  The old way which can now be though of as a new way is to live with one foot firmly planted in the present moment and one foot leaping confidently into an uncertain future.

Staying in the present moment creates attachment to the current illusion of that moment.  You can sit presently in your suffering and pain and maybe experience some relief from in through the practice of mindfulness, but this simply prolongs your suffering and pain. Or you could be aware you are suffering and have pain and embrace the uncertain future which may include more suffering and pain or none at all. Holding the vision of having none at all while doing the tasks of the moment is the process of yoga healing.

Embracing a life of uncertainty is not easy.  To facilitate the acceptance of the unknown wake up each morning and do the following:

  1.  Be glad you are alive and acknowledge it is a good day to be alive.
  2.  Also acknowledge it is a good day to die.
  3. Pray for more uncertainty than the day before.
  4. Look for possibilities.

This process will lead to the realization you are not in bondage.  You never have been.  Your suffering is a self created illusion and will disappear when you self realize.

How does this apply to the craziness of our times?

The climate is changing.  I sit here on February 7th watching my very warm Ohio yard flood due to heavy rains not appropriate for this time of year.  This is a concern.  I think about the climate shifting and it causes me anxiety and worry.  I do my best in my moment to conserve and make good collective choices for the planet.  I look forward to a future fossil free. That is the vision I hold and every bit of good news coming my way to lead to the realization of that vision is celebrated.  I don’t know how it will happen.  It doesn’t matter.  It will happen.  Yoga also teaches you are fool to grieve the living or the dead.  Of course, that is a whole other level of teaching.  But knowing that, I can be happily in this moment.

“In detacment lies the wisdom of uncertainty…in the wisdom of uncertainty lies the freedom from our past, from the known, which is the prison of past conditioning.  And in our willingness to step into the unknown, the field of all possibilities, we surrender ourselves to the creative mind that orchestrates the dance of the universe. ”  Deepak Chopra
