Yogis,  I am very happy to share the following blog by my astrologer, and friend, Laurie Baum.  I asked that Laurie write a blog about what she does to stay present and grounded as a spiritual healer.  I personally have found that Laurie is crystal clear as an astrologer and a coach.  Her insight and ability to show up for others is founded in the personal practices and disciplines that she embraces.  Laurie is a role model for me as a healer and I think she will inspire you as well.  OM, Pamela

When I initially connected with Pamela about doing this blog post, we talked about the personal self-care that I, as a healer, do prior to meeting with a client for a spiritual coaching session. As I thought about the steps I take, which  have become second nature in my work as a psychotherapist, astrologer and psychic counselor, I realized that if we all followed these steps every day, we would create a better world for everyone. With a little self-care and attention to your own internal rhythms

  • You could be centered in yourself
  • You could be present to your feelings and needs
  • You could be present to others’ feelings and needs
  • You could listen
  • You could receive the cares of the other with an open heart
  • The other person would feel loved, heard, received, uplifted, and whole
  • You would feel uplifted and loved in return … the cycle would continue … infinitely.

Here are the steps you can consider to bring greater peace, calm and centeredness to yourself … and to your clients, friends, family members, or even strangers … everyone who you meet in the course of your day:

  • Breathe deeply and rhythmically.
  • Become aware of rhythm of you natural breathing pattern.
  • Become aware of the nature of your thoughts — both those quickly passing through your mind and those that repeat themselves.
  • As you notice your thoughts, do not judge them. Just notice if they are positive? negative? rapid-fire? slow? considered? moderated? repetitive?
  • Become aware of your surroundings. Just notice them. Don’t judge them.
  • Become aware of the person or people in your environment.
  • Become aware of your their breathing.
  • Harmonize your breathing with their breath.
  • Forget that you have any worries or cares. Let them go so you may be fully present in the moment.
  • Listen. Repeat back what you think you have heard. Continue to breathe in harmony with and maintain eye contact with the person/s you are with. With or without words, offer support, compassion, empathy from your heart.

You are just one breath away from making a harmonious connection with yourself and the people in your world!
