From highs in the 60s to lows in the 20s, it has been a week of extremes, but not just for the weather.  My own personal life followed this heated and chilly pattern.  I’ve reached amazing milestones and experienced the rewards of great accomplishments.  It’s been a success week.  I’ve suffered record lows experiencing set backs, loss, and the grief that comes with it.  It’s been a failure week.

In a whirlwind jam packed week like this, I must confess my mind goes to battle and my soul gets to quiet too hear.  It seems God goes on vacation.  In my meditations the mind busies itself planning my next amazing adventure and then abruptly shifts to the why’s and how’s of loss.  The heart, trying to keep up, simply does a happy dance or a slow stressful shuffle.

In the background of this noise, I envision my soul as a super soul traveling large and in charge.  It’s so big it towers above me.  I imagine an old Hercules movie where the Greek Gods simply pick the little humans up and put them into the settings that are most dramatic.  My super soul laughs and hugs the other super souls involved as we look down at the human drama of suffering unfolding.  We wish each other well even as the people below hurt each other.  We laugh knowing it is all just a play.

My human me unable to quiet the monkey in the brain and craving intimacy with God goes to my mat.    My friend and teacher, Karrie, guiding me through an expertly crafted sequence.  My body shaking in my poses. My breath the only thing capable of quieting me.  Finally God arrives in Karrie’s closing remarks, a poem so perfect it brought me to tears.

“There comes a time in your life,

when you walk away from all the drama and people who create it.

You surround yourself with people who make you laugh.

Forget the bad,

And focus on the good.

Love the people who treat you right,

Pray for the ones who don’t.

Life is too short to be anything but happy.

Falling down is part of life

And getting back up is living.”

It seems it’s been a week of extremes for lots of you.  I hope this helps in some small way.  Peace, Pamela
