I once heard a great spiritual person say to wake up each day and be grateful you woke up.  To then account for the loved ones in your life and also be grateful they woke up.  To then honor all the souls on the planet who passed while you slept. (About 165,000 people die each day in the world).  To then honor the 10 people associated with those souls who are now grieving.  In yoga, we chant “Akal” for those are crossing over and I find myself doing this daily now as the numbers from Covid rise.  It seems we are not acknowledging their crossing as a nation and it must be very confusing for these souls.

Thanksgiving will be different this year.  I’ve had Covid in the past 2.5 months so I will be going to my. mother’s house who is 75 and spending Thanksgiving with her so she does not have to be alone.  I’m grateful to be able to do this.  Many people will be alone this holiday.   All of this put together makes me think about how many more times we will all see each other.  I flew to California last weekend and spent time with my two kids.  I did the math.  I’m 51 now.  Let’s assume I die at the average age of 73.  I have 22 more years on the planet.  It’s in my Astrology I will always travel to see my kids so I can count on probably 44 more visits with them before I die.

Maybe you have a partner you live with.  Assuming the same, we have 8,030 days left together.

Shouldn’t we be valuing these visits and days more?  I think we will.

I’m not confused and it is true families are full of drama and karma.  As yogis, however, the job is to master deep listening and acceptance.  We watch the show and when our ego drags us into the thick of things, we gently take the ego’s hand and pull it back to center.   Here are the blocks you may have which do not allow this process to evolve:

1. Anger
2. Anxiety
3. A suspecting nature
4. Not forgiving
5. An unloving nature
6. Hatred
7. Karma
8. Impatience
9. Insecurity
10. Feeling Not Worthy
11. Feeling left out
12. Feeling rejected
Step ONE of removing these blocks is to cultivate a loving nature through the practices (not physical…..philosophical) of yoga.  We do this gently and over time.

Here is the mantra to remove family karma:

Yidu anadi
jangamuddharani
raksha raksha rakshamam
