I’ve started teaching on Monday nights again at 6:30.  It’s a new to yoga class.  I subbed for the class a few weeks ago and was reminded why I love to teach new to yoga and how much I have missed it.  In a very synchronistic way the class opened up shortly after I put that subtle intention out there to the universe and now I’m teaching.  It’s the perfect example of how these laws work.

I thought I’d go back to my roots for this 2014 and that means back to Dr. Chopra’s teachings.  My certification in yoga is in The Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga.  These are seven yogi laws to live by creating a magical life.  Last night we worked through the first law, The Law of Pure Potentiality.  It’s the toughest one always making me wonder why we start with it, but I know why.  It’s about establishing the meditative mind.  This is critical to your happiness and all the laws you learn are dependent upon you understanding who you really are.

If you are going to learn the laws with me, buy the book.  Do scroll below for the mantra and the practice.

Practice this law from “The Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga” on Sunday.

This law resonates with the crown chakra and vibrates to the frequency of “OM.”  The color of the day is violet or light purple.  This law is about understanding you are nothing more than pure awareness.  There is a silence inside of you that is solid and deep.  Connect with it.

Mantra in Sanskrit   Om Bhavam Namah
Mantra in English   I am absolute existence

The Law of Pure Potentiality states that at the core of your being, you are pure awareness.  To cultivate awareness do the following on and off your mat:

  Be Silent
Set aside 10 minutes each day to practice meditation.  For at least one hour each day, turn off the phone, radio and TV and exist in silence.

  Be Still
Practice Savasana for 10 minutes each day.  Savasana is the relaxed pose.  Lie on your back with legs straight or knees bent, arms gently to the sides, palms up.  Take a few deep belly breaths and then let it go.  Just be.

Practice nonjudgement   Do not judge yourself or those around you.

OM Work

Give yourself a sesame seed oil massage every day.  It will nourish your skin keeping it firm, yet soft.  Massaging your skin releases toxins and beneficial hormones thereby enhancing your happiness.

Go outside this evening and notice the stars.  Contemplate your existence.
