“Live quietly in the moment and see the beauty of all before you. The future will take care of itself.” ― Paramahansa Yogananda

I love Thanksgiving because it’s a time in America where I perceive all families are gathered together in a reflective and prayerful way to give thanks for the simple things in life like food, family, and friends. At my house we have a tradition of going around the table before we dig in and each saying the things we are most grateful for.  The things we express gratitude for fall into the same categories year after year regardless of gender, race, or age.

  • Our homes
  • Our families
  • Our health
  • Our security

Ultimately we are grateful to be happy and those four things seem to be the pillars of happiness the world over.  They are simple things, really.

This Thanksgiving, I’d like to see us add a #5 to the list above.  This Thanksgiving my prayer is that we all give thanks for this present moment that we are living in.  I recently heard a pastor say that happiness is found in the space where time meets eternity.  It’s this gift of the present that I am truly thankful for.  It’s this gift of the present where our love, appreciation, and happiness for our homes, our families, our health, and our security lives.

I chose the following prayer because it reflects this simplicity.  Feel free to change it up to fit your needs…Lord can become Universe, Creator, Spirit….  I wish I could credit it to someone, but I don’t know where I heard it. Let me know if you know.

Bless Us As We Eat

Thank you, Lord.

These are simple words but they come from simple hearts that overflow with the realization of your goodness.

We ask you to bless us as we eat, bless this food and bless the hands that prepared it.

May the words of our lips spring forth from hearts of gratitude and may we bless others as we fellowship today.

Amen.

I hope to see you Thursday morning at 9 am for our annual Thanksgiving practice.  Om, Pamela
