My random flip today came not to a quote, but to the Self-reflection questions. The question posed:
What steps can I take to deepen my relationship with God?
This is an interesting question because I can give you all the classical tips like spending time in solitude, being quiet, being in nature, meditating, praying, seeing God in all, doing less, reflecting more, expressing gratitude, etc.
Of course with me there is always a ‘but’ and my big ‘but’ (don’t go there) is that I don’t want to do any of that anymore. I just want to be. I want to stop working so hard to have this relationship with God. Oddly, I feel spirit with me 100% of the time. I eat, breathe, and live it. I don’t feel any need to connect. I’d like to meditate simply because it feels good without any goal for deepening a relationship. I’d like to spend time in nature because I like trees. I want to stop looking for some deep spiritual meaning in everything I do, everything I see, and everything that happens.
I’ve been walking a path of fire for a long time. By that, I mean I’ve been immersing myself in extremist practices to purify myself. I’ll caution you, the ego doesn’t like this. I think because of it, I’ve actually had to lengthen this journey and suffer a bit more as I’ve worked through rebellion. Maybe I’m exhausted from this or maybe I’m maturing, but I’d like to soften all of my practices, allow my connection to just be simple and easy, and deepen my relationship with actual humans.
What do you think? What is your relationship? Where are you in this journey?
