I’ve been teaching Kundalini Yoga for 3 months since returning from my teacher training immersion in India in February and I gotta say….I LOVE IT. It has transformed the way I show up, the way I teach, and the way I feel when I do teach.
Obviously the Kundalini classes are a new for me to lead and that would be an expected “new”, but shockingly, my hatha classes have dynamically transformed as well. I’ve been pondering what is different and if you will allow me to get a little energy weird for a moment, I’ll try to explain.
When you teach yoga, you show up with the best intent to give a person a good workout, some tools to manage stress, and a good message to help them on their way. This all appears to be driven by the teachers intellect, experience, and heart. When teaching hatha yoga, it mostly is. Sometimes, however, as a yoga teacher, you will hit this sweet spot where it feels like the teachings and words are simply coming through you. It’s a magical experience akin to “channeling” and the only downside is that you mostly can’t remember what you did or said post class and there is no chance of repeating it. These are the most powerful classes.
When teaching Kundalini yoga, you always hit that sweet spot. The teachings, the words, and the management of the energy of the class simply flows through. There is a group dynamic, energy, and healing space that I simply can’t describe effectively. I can actually feel the energy of the room merge. It’s amazing.
Now what I have found is if I tune in with Adi Mantra, “Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo”…calling in the Gurus of the past, present, and future… before a Hatha class and finish the Hatha class with a Kundalini meditation….yum yum yum…..we hit that sweet spot. The Hatha Yoga class just pores through and an amazing energy exchange happens.
I swear it feels like magic.
